I am extremely disappointed in 1and1.com and would not recommend them to anyone searching for a hosting company. 02/14/2009I have owned a numbed of websites in my day but this was the first time I decided to work with another company outside of GoDaddy.com. On a recommendation of my web designer, I decided to try out a new company called 1and1. First part of the process is always acquiring a domain name. Now in working with other domain purchasing companies, when I buy a domain name, it takes me no longer than a few minutes. But more importantly, once I have clicked submit, that domain is my and is immediately registered with ICANN. This ensures that while I am still building my website, no other person or company can acquire my name. Now in my first experience with 1and1.com, I registered 4 domain names. I do have to say that I was very pleased that 1and1 was $1 less than any other website that I had ever purchased from and the private registry was free. But after that, everything went down hill. First of, 1and1 as I was told by a customer service rep after being on hold for almost 15 minutes, doesn’t immediately purchase the domain name after you click submit. But instead, they wait between 6 to 48 hours to complete your registry. This is not acceptable here in the 21st century. Second, after I decided to no longer work with 1and1 and canceled my purchase, which should have been ok as the order had not been completed yet, it took me almost 2 days to cancel it. And even after that, they charged me $6 to do so. There are for sure some other reasons I would not suggest working with 1and1 but the domain experience that I had with them was reason enough.
Wishing you all luck on your next websites.
