Home Depot was a great place to work, but the customers drive me crazy. 01/31/2009I loved working at Home Depot, or "the depot" for those of you in the in crowd. I worked the night stock shift in paint. I couldn't really figure out why i took a job there, but while i was employed, i for sure enjoyed it. People are super nice, management doesn't completely know what they are doing, but what is interesting about Home Depot is that everyone there, "even the managers" are always willing to learn together. Even when my manager was in the wrong, which wasn't too often but did happen on every so ofter, he admitted it and made a pretty good effort to learn from it and not make the same mistake twice. That was super impressive to me. Their return policies are pretty good, customer service is almost top notch, but i would have to say that the knowledge of the staff "at least in some departments" are a little lacking. Some people really really know what they are talking about, but outside of that, you will have to know at least a little about what you are doing and need to be pointed in the correct direction. Home Depot was a great first job for me and i would highly recommend it to anyone else currently looking for work. But do expect to work pretty hard. They put a lot of pressure on their staff to not only know what they are doing, but also on safety as well as making sure they are going the extra mile for their customers. If you are not there to help, smile, and go the extra mile, you should for sure look for another career than the Depot. Benefits are ok, pay is ok, work environment is awesome, "everyone is like family here" career growth could be a little better but they do always promote from within so that is nice. Training is a little bit over kill, but i guess when you are working with tools and such, it is important to know what you are doing. I for sure enjoyed working at Home Depot and would recommend it to anyone.
