I would never recommend working at Nordstoms, ever ever... 01/31/2009Nordstroms was hands down the worst place for me to work. I just flat out hated it. So many ideas but so much misdirection by the management. No one really knows what they are doing, only that their manager once thought them how to do something one way and that is just how we are going to continue doing it until the end of time. Now on a side note, the stores are always super clean and the cloths are always high end. If you don't want to shop in style pick somewhere else. But if you enjoy looking good and feeling great, Nordstroms is for sure the place to shop. I worked at Nordstroms for only 2 weeks and was so disappointed in my manager and the office staff that I enjoyed quitting. The day before my last, HR asked me to come in, I was told I was being promoted to womens shoes as I had done so well in young mens and shoes was where I wanted to go next. Keep in mind that this is only after 2 week of working at Nordstoms. Now "and I remember quit vividly" the HR lady saying, come in tomorrow at 9, 9ish 30. I thought to myself, what is 9, 9ish 30. Ohhhh, she must have meant, 9, 9:30ish. Ahhhh, I get it, ok kewl. So the next day I showed up at 9:15. Always early I say. If you are going to come in late, don't bother coming in at all. So there I am 15 minutes early and the HR lady says, hey, you are late. I said no, I'm 15 minutes early. She said, I asked you to be her at 9:00am. I said no, you said 9, 9ish 30. So I thought between 9 and 9:30, so I am early. Now keep in mind that this is just little bicker dicker stuff but none the less we had already started off on a disagreement. The next thing that came out of her mouth shocked me. She said, ya know, you had done so well in young mens that we where gonna promote you to womens shoes. For those of you who do not know, at Nordstroms, womens shoes is the pick of the litter. You make the most money and are the best taken care of in the store. She said, ya know, I just don't think it's time for you to be promoted. I of course asked why. Her reply was something along the lines of, ya, ummmm, if you are gonna be late like this, I just don't think womens shoes is gonna work out. My mouth dropped to say the least. All I could do was walk out of her office. I then went down stairs to talk to the shoe manager. She said, I’m so excited for you to be starting today. I have so much to teach you. I proceeded to tell her that I didn't get the position and I honestly didn’t know why. About an hour later, the Nordstroms shoe manager came down and just told me that the HR lady really just didn’t like me and that was kinda the end of it. I would probably no never be promoted because she makes all the decisions around there and I was now on her bad side. So with that said, I walked to the back room, grabbed my stuff and walked out the front door. Now I will tell you this as I no longer work for Nordstoms, on my way out, I with so much rage, stood in the middle of the store and yelled swear words at the top of my lungs for about 10 seconds straight. "F" this, "S" that, bla bla is a "B", just things like that, and then I walked out the door. Never to return. I hate that place. It was more about who you suck up to instead of how you work. The HR manager at Nordstroms didn't care that I was the number one young mens clothing sales person or that I had already had 8 comment cards in the last 2 weeks praising my hard work and smile. All she cared about was that I was late. Oh well, good ridents.
